SSC CHSL Selection Process

The CHSL exam is divided into 2 stages.

1. Computer based test (Tier 1)
2. Computer based test (Tier 2)
3. Skill Test/Typing Test

The Details of the 2 stages are as follows:

1. Computer Based Test (Tier 1) – 

This is the first stage of the exam. It consists of a test of 200 marks, which has 4 sections and each section has 25 questions, each question carries 2 marks and if the question is answered wrong, 0.50 marks will be deducted. The questions will be set in English,Hindi & Regional language also.

2.Computer Based Test (Tier 2) – 

After qualifying Tier 1, candidates appear in Tier 2. In this, an exam is taken which has a total of 3 sections, it is called Paper 1. Paper-I is mandatory for all the posts. Paper-I will be conducted in two sessions – Session –I & Session-II, on the same day.  

The first section consists of 60 questions and each question carries 3 marks, the time given for this is 1 hour.

The second section consists of 60 questions and that too with 3 marks and 1 hour time is given for this also.There will be negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. After this, there is a computer knowledge test, there are a total of 15 questions and these are also of 3 marks, 15 minutes time is given for this.

At the end, a Skill Test/Typing test is taken on the computer which has to be completed in 15 minutes. And this is an important test, failing in it will not make you eligible for this job.

Candidates who are successful then become eligible to get the post of their choice.

Job Profile and Salary –

This is a Desk Job (clerical) where you have to arrange the files of different ministries. In this, selection is done in 3 posts which are as follows:

  1. LDC (Lower Division Clerk)
  2. DEO (Data Entry Operator)
  3. JSA (Junior Secretariat Assistant)

Lower Division Clerk (LDC)/ Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA): Pay Level-2 (Rs. 19,900-63,200). 

Data Entry Operator (DEO): Pay Level-4(Rs. 25,500-81,100) and Level-5(Rs. 29,200-92,300). 

Data Entry Operator, Grade ‘A’: Pay Level-4(Rs. 25,500-81,100).
